Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) [top]
The El Dorado County Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) began in 1990. The program aims to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke in El Dorado County. It is funded by Proposition 99, a state tax on tobacco products. TUPP has four program priorities:
- Limit tobacco promotion in the community
- Reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, tobacco waste and other tobacco products
- Increase smoke-free public spaces, worksites, schools and communities
- Reduce availability of tobacco products
- Promote availability of stop smoking services
TUPP works with local community groups, youth, service and health organizations and schools to offer tobacco education, cessation and policy programs. We:
- Educate on the effects of secondhand smoke
- Advocate for tobacco control policies
- Encourage policies and state laws
- Inform on environmental and social norm change
- Work to reduce illegal sales of tobacco to children
It is against the law to sell any tobacco product to a person under the age of 18. To report an illegal sale of tobacco to a minor call 1-800-5-ASK-4-ID. Report cigarette butts tossed out of car windows to the California Highway Patrol’s number: 1-800-TELL CHP.

SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education [top]
SNAP-Ed (Nutrition Education) is an evidence-based program that helps people lead healthier lives. SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education teaches people using, or eligible for SNAP, about good nutrition and how to make their food dollars stretch further. SNAP-Ed participants also learn to integrate some physically active steps into their daily lives.
SNAP-Ed works by building partnerships with all types of community organizations. Communities have social marketing campaigns, hold nutrition education classes, and improve their policies, systems, and the environment of the community.
