The mission of the Planning Department is to: Guide land use and development consistent with the General Plan, Building Codes and related regulations, by providing accurate, timely and courteous professional and technical services to our customers, to maintain the County's unique quality of life, protect public safety and the environment and to promote economic vitality for current and future generations.

Writ of Mandate from the Superior Court of the State of California.

The executed Writ of Mandate suspends approval of construction and Oak Woodland removal permits in the Highway 50 corridor, defined as the mapped Important Biological Corridors ("IBC") running north to south of Highway 50.

The Planning and Building Department is committed to providing you with the best customer service.  Our lobby is currently open to the public. We're experiencing a substantial increase in permit applications, and as a result, the turnaround times for plan checks and permit reviews are taking longer than usual. Please know we are diligently working to get your plan check and/or permit review completed as quickly as possible so your permit can be issued.

Although Lodging is allowed to open up in Phase 3, there is still a statewide nonessential travel ban in place.  VHRs may not be rented to anyone traveling from outside of the community where the property exists.  Follow the County Facebook page for the latest updates.

Planning Commission

During this time, Planning Commission meetings will be limited to hear only those items related to immediate health-life-safety issues and those where social distancing can be achieved. Technology allowing remote participation is being utilized.
