FREE WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM CAN OFFER RESIDENTS
BIG SAVINGS ON HEATING AND COOLING BILLS
(Placerville, CA) - With cooler weather fast approaching and many families on tight budgets, every cost saving measure helps. El Dorado County residents can potentially save big on energy bills, and keep their homes warmer this fall and winter, by taking advantage of free weatherization services through El Dorado County's Home Weatherization Program. The average yearly savings in energy bills after weatherization is over $400.
Through the Weatherization Program, income qualified property owners and renters can receive an average of $2,000 in energy saving improvements to the home, with some homes qualifying for more. Weatherization technicians check the home to see how energy efficient the home is and where improvements can be made.
"Services are tailored to each home and designed for maximum cost savings," said Kean Rankin, who leads the County's Weatherization Program. "Our technicians may be able to replace shade screens, install ceiling fans or insulation in attics, repair or replace water heaters, and repair or replace heating units and air conditioners, for example."
In addition to the Weatherization Program, El Dorado County has an Energy Assistance program that can help income qualified residents with a credit towards their electricity bill or with the purchase of wood, propane, kerosene or pellets. Funding for both programs is limited and provided on a first come, first serve basis to qualified residents.
Households must meet program eligibility guidelines and specific income criteria to qualify for the programs. To learn more about these programs, please call (530) 621-6150 or visit www.edcgov.us/humanservices. Home Weatherization and Energy Assistance are programs of the El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency.
