Free "Aging and Caregiver" Educational Series Offered in Tahoe


The Family Caregiver Support Program of the El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency is offering a free "Aging & Caregiver" educational series for people who care for a family member or friend aged 60 years or older.

The series will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. weekly on Mondays beginning on October 9, 2017, and ending on November 13, 2017, at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, 4130 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.  Trainings in the series will be provided by local subject matter experts on the following topics:

  • October 9, 2017, Common Scams/Preventing Elder Abuse – Learn about the scams aimed at seniors and how to prevent your loved one from becoming a victim.
  • October 16, 2017, Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body – Get the latest research on diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and the tools to create a plan for healthy living.
  • October 23, 2017, Welcome to Planet Alzheimer's – The author of "Welcome to Planet Alzheimer's" will help you learn how to successfully communicate with someone who has Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
  • October 30, 2017, Tips from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department – Learn about in-home safety for Alzheimer's patients, emergency evacuation planning for caregivers and what to do if a dementia patient goes missing.
  • November 6, 2017, Barton Home Health and Hospice – Join Dr. Gerhart, lead physician with Barton Home Health and Hospice, in a frank discussion on aging and healthy living.
  • November 13, 2017, Music and Memory - Learn the connection between music and memory, and how listening to music can revitalize a person with Alzheimer's disease.

Participants of the training series may attend one or all of the classes. The classes are free; donations are gratefully accepted. Light refreshments will be served. The series is offered as an educational opportunity only; no solicitation of services will be presented.
