WHAT WILL MEDICARE CHOICES BE IN 2020?
Free Workshops Offered in El Dorado County in October & November 2019

(Placerville, CA) - Medicare Open Enrollment is October 15 through December 7, 2019. This enrollment period is one of the few times Medicare beneficiaries can change, enroll into or disenroll from a Part D drug plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan (such as an HMO). Changes to plans are effective January 1, 2020.

Medicare has announced new benefits, and Medicare Advantage plans have the option to add to their plans in 2020. "It's important that beneficiaries are aware of annual Medicare changes, including these additions to existing Advantage plans, as well as the possible addition of new Medicare Advantage plans in El Dorado County in 2020," said Rhoda Slagle, Regional Coordinator of the El Dorado County Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP).

Four free, one-hour, public workshops will be conducted in El Dorado County by HICAP during the months of October and November 2019 to help Medicare enrollees understand coverage options in 2020. The workshops are scheduled as follows:

  • Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at 12:45 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd., in South Lake Tahoe
  • Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at 12:45 p.m. at the Cameron Park Community Center, 2502 Country Club Dr., in Cameron Park
  • Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at the Placerville Senior Center, 937 Spring Street in Placerville
  • Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center (the Gilmore Center), 990 Lassen Lane, in El Dorado Hills

In addition to the workshops, HICAP provides free, individual counseling about Medicare throughout the year in Placerville, El Dorado Hills and South Lake Tahoe. To make an appointment, call (530) 621-6369 Ext.3. A limited number of appointments are available.
