FREE COMMUNITY FLU VACCINE CLINICS ANNOUNCED IN EL DORADO COUNTY
(Placerville, CA) - The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health Division is conducting no-cost community flu vaccination clinics during the months of October and November, 2023. Seasonal influenza vaccine will be administered in flu shot form only.
"An annual flu vaccine provides the best protection against the flu and it is available to everyone six months of age and older," said Heather Orchard, Supervising Public Health Nurse with El Dorado County Public Health. "It's especially important for high-risk people, such as children under age five, people 65 years and older, pregnant women and people with chronic diseases like asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or lung disease to be vaccinated because influenza can have more serious health impacts for these groups. It's also critical for health care workers and people taking care of high-risk persons to be immunized."
In addition to the flu vaccine, the County plans to also offer at no cost the Adjuvanted Flu vaccine (recommended for people ages 65 and older) and the updated COVID-19 vaccine when available. "According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), both the flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine can be given at the same time," said Orchard.
