2023 SENIOR OF THE YEAR WINNERS AND NOMINEES
IN EL DORADO COUNTY
Jim and Maureen Carter are the recipients of the
2023 Senior of the Year award in El Dorado County
(Placerville, CA) - The votes are in for the 2023 Senior of the Year award in El Dorado County. Maureen and Jim Carter, both residents of Placerville, were named as recipients of the award during the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors meeting on May 16, 2023. Maureen and Jim were recognized for their exemplary volunteer service and community contributions in El Dorado County. In addition to Maureen and Jim, twelve other older adults from El Dorado County were recognized as nominees for Senior of the Year award.
Residents of El Dorado County for more than 45 years, Maureen and Jim were recognized for their community volunteer work over the years and dedicated support of many non-profits in El Dorado County. Their contributions to the community have included volunteer work and/or support to projects benefiting the Boys & Girls Club, local schools, Marshall Hospital, MORE, the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, New Morning Youth & Family Services, The Upper Room, Hands 4 Hope, the Food Bank of El Dorado County, Mother Teresa Maternity Home, Assistance League of the Sierra Foothills, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, the 4-H, CASA El Dorado, and others. Maureen and Jim have also volunteered on numerous community Boards, including the Women's Fund El Dorado Board, El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce Board, El Dorado County Community Foundation Board, and others.
Twelve other older adults were acknowledged as nominees for 2023 Senior of the Year in recognition of their volunteer service to the community. These individuals included: Lon Milka, Robert Williams, Cathie Adams, Wynema Conley, Cheryl Breitweiser, Norma Wilson, Matt Nunley, Karen and Stew Wilson, Maureen Dion Perry, Carmen Moyapeterson, and Judy Monestier.
The Senior of the Year award is sponsored each year in El Dorado County by the El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging and the Commission on Aging. According to Star Walker, Program Coordinator with El Dorado County Senior Services, the local recognition event has been in existence for more than 30 years. "We are so pleased to be able to highlight the many contributions of our senior members of the community through the Senior of the Year award," said Walker.
