Memorial Day Tribute at the El Dorado County Veterans Monument

Image of Flying FlagOn Monday, May 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., the 10th annual Memorial Day Celebration will take place at the El Dorado County Veterans Monument, 360 Fair Lane, Placerville (at the County Government Center)

Each year our community packs the El Dorado County Veterans Monument grounds to honor those who have served the cause of freedom.

The El Dorado County Veterans Monument symbolizes the freedoms, institutions, and way of life that our veterans have gallantly sacrificed to protect. During the singing of our National Anthem, the distant rumbling of vintage radial engines will be heard as a flight of WWII-era war birds approaches the monument. Their radial engines become a thundering sound – felt as much as heard – as they fill the air-space above the Veterans Monument in salute “to those who have served the cause of freedom.”

Highlights of this year's tribute will include:

  • A bronze plaque will be placed honoring Gerald Holderman former USMC WW11 Dauntless Dive Bomber Gunner.
  • Presentation of the annual Veterans Monument Scholarship award
  • Commander Jake “Slim” Parsons USN will officiate as Master of Ceremonies
  • William “Bill” Roby, Executive Director of the El Dorado Community Foundation, will comment on the Veterans Monument “Welcome Home Fund”
  • Bagpiper: COL. Bill Tubbs California State Military Reserve
  • Chorus: Ponderosa High School Chamber Choir will sing our National Anthem
  • 21-Gun Salute by the El Dorado County Sheriffs Dept. Gun Team

This is an important time for us to let our veterans know we support them.
