Probation

Administration

The Chief Probation Officer, Deputy Chief Probation Officer(s), Chief Fiscal Officer and Superintendent of Institutions administer countywide operations and services, which include juvenile and adult court and supervision services, juvenile detention and treatment services, victim services, collections, support services and special programs.

The Probation Department has 132 permanent positions assigned to the Shingle Springs Office, the South Lake Tahoe Office, the Placerville Juvenile Hall and the South Lake Tahoe Juvenile Treatment Center.

The Probation Department partners in special projects with many government, education, law enforcement, and community agencies within El Dorado County and throughout the State of California.

Support Services Division

The Support Service Division of the Department provides fiscal, administrative, clerical and information technology (IT) for all Probation divisions. The Fiscal, Administrative and IT units are centralized in the Shingle Springs Office. Clerical Support staff are located at each Probation Office and Juvenile Detention Facility. The functions of these units include:

Fiscal Support:
The Fiscal Unit performs a variety of activities to include:

  •  Budget preparation and monitoring
  •  Fiscal report preparation to include local, federal and state
  •  Grant monitoring
  •  Revenue recovery services including distribution of victim restitution
  •  Accounts payable/accounts receivable
  •  Department payroll processing
  •  Procurement of all Department supplies, minor equipment, and fixed assets

Administration Support:
The Administrative Unit is responsible for:

  •  Personnel services for both sworn and non-sworn staff
  •  Contract/MOU development and maintenance
  •  Board of Supervisors agenda item preparation
  •  Inventory
  •  Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) coordination
  •  Support to management

Clerical Support:
The Clerical Unit provides services to include:

  •  Public support services
  •  Document processing for Probation activities
  •  Case file maintenance
  •  Electronic case management data entry
  •  Record retention
  •  Support to management and sworn staff as required

Information Technology Support:
The IT Unit has a responsibility to manage the information technology needs for the entire Department including:

  •  Maintenance of the Department’s case management system and other software applications
  •  Develop reports to extract data and statistics from the case management system
  •  Management, maintenance and support of all department computers, servers and printers
  •  Maintain and track all computer inventory
  •  Act as Department liaison with the El Dorado County Central Information Technologies Department
