(PLACERVILLE, CA) – El Dorado County Chief Administrator Don Ashton today announced the hiring of
veteran communications expert Carla Hass as Director of Communications and Outreach. This is a new position
for the county and the placement comes at a critical time for residents and taxpayers in El Dorado County as
government leaders undertake the implementation of its Strategic Plan to improve services and prepares its
annual budget.
“Local government has more day-to-day impact on people’s lives than anything coming from Sacramento or
Washington. That means we have an obligation to make sure residents are informed and engaged so the services
we provide match public expectations and taxpayer resources,” said Ashton. “Bringing Carla’s expertise into
county government is one of the ways we are carrying out that mission.”
Recognizing the importance of keeping citizens informed about the issues that impact their daily lives,
including public safety, infrastructure, economic development, and health and human services, the Board of
Supervisors approved this position and after an extensive search of qualified candidates, Hass was selected.
“I’m thrilled to be part of such a great team of public servants who want to give the best possible service to the
residents of El Dorado County and strive every day to make this a better place to live, work and play,” said
Hass. “I intend to bring to bear all the public and private sector strategic communications and outreach
experience I’ve gained to ensure people are aware of the vast array of services we offer, what’s happening
throughout the County of El Dorado, and to better engage them in the process of the business that can make
their daily lives better.”
Hass has built her career in the communications and public relations business over the last 25 years, serving as a
top-level public affairs specialist and spokesperson for two California governors, communications and
marketing senior vice president at the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and communications
director at the Sacramento Area Council of Governments. She has held senior-level positions at two global
public affairs firms and established her own communications consultancy focusing on crisis communications,
media relations, strategic communications and speaker training for a variety of government and private sector
industry.
“Carla has a blend of public and private sector experience which provides the unique ability to both understand
how government business is conducted and apply the innovation of the private sector to communicate it in an
interesting, compelling way,” said Ashton. “We’re very fortunate to have someone of her caliber working on
behalf of El Dorado County and its residents.”
