DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ALERTS PUBLIC TO UPCOMING
CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS IN DIAMOND SPRINGS
(PLACERVILLE, CA) – Motorists who drive in the Diamond Springs area are going to see a lot of construction activity over the next few years with five major improvements slated to begin now and continue through 2020, according to El Dorado County Department of Transportation (DOT) officials. Two more projects are planned pending funding.
"We typically notify the public approximately a week ahead of planned road closures and detours," said Rafael Martinez, Director of the Department of Transportation. "But due to the volume of work being done in this confined area of the County, we want to get the word out early and often so people know what's happening now and what's ahead," said Rafael Martinez, Director of the Department of Transportation.
The County's new Public Safety Facility is currently under construction on Industrial Way off of Missouri Flat Road. The main public entrance is on Industrial Drive with a gated staff-only entrance on Merchandise Way. The campus will have multiple buildings that encompass 108,000 square feet, ample parking and a solar farm. The campus design and construction is managed by the County's Facilities Division.
The Department of Transportation established an extensive underground utility district that will remove utility poles and overhead lines to improve safety in Diamond Springs. The undergrounding of utility construction is managed by PG&E and will be advanced with scheduled road construction in the area. Road construction projects scheduled for the next few years include Diamond Springs Parkway Phase 1A, which will realign and widen SR-49 between Pleasant Valley Road and Bradley Drive and place traffic signals at both the Industrial Drive and Enterprise Drive intersections on Missouri Flat Road.
Construction will also begin this year on the westward extension of the El Dorado Trail from Missouri Flat Road to Oriental Street that will travel alongside the existing railroad tracks. A future bicycle and pedestrian overcrossing at Missouri Flat Road is planned to connect the east and west portions of the El Dorado Trail when funding is made available. Until then, trail users will be able to use the shoulder, sidewalk and crosswalk at Golden Center Drive for the connectivity.
There will be temporary traffic control and detours during these construction projects to ensure motorist and worker safety. Traffic impacts will entail intermittent lane closures and a temporary full closure of Lime Kiln Road from Lime Plant Road to SR-49 for eight weeks. The DOT will post notifications at least one week in advance of the closure and will provide information to the traveling public via the County website, press release, and portable changeable message signs.
